Unsearchable: an Easter prayer

“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives…”

-Jeremiah 17:9-10

Lord,

As unsearchable and dark as our hearts are, you examine them and know them fully. As thoroughly as you know my fallen character and selfish leanings, still you gave everything for me.

And on this day you took the first steps of a resurrected life – the same life you offer to me, the same pattern you call me to follow.

You see through my fronts to my unsearchable heart, with all the mess and weakness and disheveled state of things, and you do not find it hopeless.

You take my hand and gently lead me to walk forward in new life.

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living in you.”

Romans 8:11
